run a beginner skating competition for your skaters

The Prelim competition will be the first of hopefully many competitions for the beginner skater. The idea behind the prelim is to create a competition for beginner skaters not yet federated by providing easily achievable competition requirements catered especially for the skater to compete in a positive and rewarding environment. The competition contains grades Gold, Silver and Bronze.

These should be arranged for the time slot used for the Learn to Skate class at your venue. This ensures a positive experience for those new skaters who are being encouraged to join the sport.

Where necessary, split each ability group into ages so young skaters are not against someone older who has many advantages (balance & concentration being some). This will also help ensure that most skaters receive a prize for something. Examples of this can be to use Highly Commended certificates or 3rd = placements. Use judges who understand that sometimes encouragement in this situation can be more effective for the outcome of the competition than awarding only the people who are deserving at that point in time.

The  Bronze grade will cater for skaters who have been skating approximately 1-3 months or very young who are in the Badge grades 1 & 2.
The Silver grade will cater for the  skaters who have skated for approximately between 3-9 months and in the Badge grades 3, 4 & 5.

The Gold grade will be almost up to the first beginner grades at Regionals or Areas and based for the skaters in Badges 6, 7, 8, 9 & 10.
