Regionals was held at Mt Wellington skating rink for the first time since the 1990's with the loss of the excellent West Auckland venue at the West Wave Centre in Henderson. 

It was a full-on day for most & this was especially so for the new beginner skaters. As these events have been run in the past over a 2 - 3 hour time slot, I fielded numerous grievances from parents trying to occupy the remainder of their families from 9am thru till 5pm and re-arrange their day at the same time, as these families are not yet as rehearsed in spending full days at the rink. Hopefully in future events it will be possible for us to return to this format.

Oceania champion Alyssa Longville pulled a stunning performance for the first skater in the Junior Freedance event, but Samantha Reason took out the  grade with a very graceful performance.  Her younger sister Sarah stepped up for her first time in the Junior grade for a very respectable third.

The evening was finished with some very lively & colourful Samba's in the Intermediate CSD. Rebecca Bilyard took out first place over good friends & training cohorts April Geers & Evelyn Harris. 

The Novice Solo Dance grade again was hotly contested, with the top honors going to Sarah Mays from West Auckland. She was closely followed by Shanti & Katelyn.

The competition was very close for the Elementary Solo title. After both dances Anya Troung-George took 1st place over fellow newcomer to this grade Simone Hollier & Azure Manunui. 

Former freeskater Helen McElhannan skated her Waltz for the first time & looks forward to meeting the Masters CSD competitiors from down South later in the year.
