| Elementary Freeskating
Not being an expert on freestyle my reviews of these events will not be filled with technical analysis. I will say however that the title was taken by Bronte with a dynamic & energetic routine. She was followed closely by Kate Spencer from Manawatu with a very intricately choreographed routine & Macarena from Mt Wellington with a steady & complete performance.

Masters Solo Dance - Compulsories With all the masters improving as each year goes past this is becoming a very competitive grade. The first dance showed flow & strength around the floor by using all the runs. The biggest improvements in this field were seen in Paula & Carol this year. The second dance, a tango that is new to the New Zealand schedule caused a few pattern difficulties due to the size of the floor. A very smooth waltz secured the title for Joanne from Christchurch. Basil performed again for this to take second from Estelle who was following closerly with very strong performances. Congratulations to all of these skaters for making this event well
worth watching. |

| Cadet CSD - Cha Cha
For most of the skaters in this grade the event was a huge step up coming from Elementary the previous year. It was great to see the variety of music that was mostly recent & interesting. As a skater & spectator this is a huge part of enjoying the competition year. The experience of the international cadet skaters showed in their strength on the floor. The two top positions in CSD & Compulsories were taken by Westies Sarah & Selina, with great energy & performance. Both Emily & Emma skated their routines with speed & flow around the floor. Emma's was especially energetic For their first year in the grade Tanya, Oliver, Kimberley, Solome & Kelsi coped with this step really well. I enjoyed Tanya's impression on her stop, Salome's dance during the whole routine & the technical was great to see for the first year. This was enough to take 3rd.

Senior Solo Dance - Compulsories Congratulations to Rachael for taking out this prestigious title with
a powerful & sparkling performance. Kerrie had improved on her speed
& flow around the floor, which on the wide Wanganui floor can be
hard to cover for the foxtrot. Bonny's Tango was the smoothest of her
dances, while Tash had increased on her flow & speed around the
floor. Eleanor only moved into this grade this year. The dances are much
more technically difficult than those in Junior & I look forward to
seeing the progression of the two relatively new skaters to this
grade. |
