NATIONALS
2006
|
|
|---|---|---|
| Finally after 26 years Nationals
was held back in Christchurch.
The Christchurch committee did a great job of organizing the Championships. It began with Life memberships being awarded to 2 long serving artistic volunteers Jim Taylor & Joan Alexander and Graeme Campbell from speed. All of whom have spent many years and much of their personal timein the roller skating world.
There were a few programme changes this year with artistic training
every second day for the events that day & the next, and the
introduction of more 'block' like programmes so there was less switching
backwards & forwards between artistic & speed. Unfortunately I don't know how much outside interest we got from the rest of the sports centre, though it is definitely along the track we need to promote our sport to the public. Almost everyone felt the cold of the stadium that was needed to keep the skating floor in the best possible condition and commented in their surveys (Roger would appreciate if you could send these back if you didn't hand them in at the champs). It certainly isn't the grippiest floor I've skated on, but even when the rain affected the humidity and the floor deteriorated it wasn't the slipperiest either.

Despite that the championships saw some brilliant performances and personal
bests from the skaters. And worth a mention is the clean sweep from
Manawatu for the points trophies for every single discipline.
